What we look for in obsolete & discontinued plugs
There is a counterintuitive truth in this trade: the older and more discontinued a busway line is, the more a plant will pay for a plug that fits it. A facility running a busway system that went out of production decades ago cannot buy a new plug at any price. Their only options are the used market or replacing the entire run, and replacing the run costs six figures.
So do not assume that because your gear is old it is scrap. Plugs for discontinued lines are among the most valuable units we handle, and we actively hunt for them. If a piece of equipment looks ancient, has a manufacturer name that no longer exists, and looks like nobody has made a replacement since before you started at the plant, that is precisely the item to send us a photo of first.
The flip side is honest disclosure: some obsolete lines genuinely have no aftermarket demand left, and in that case the material is worth recovery value and we will say so. You will get a straight answer either way rather than a lowball offer dressed up as a favor.
