What we look for in tap boxes & fusible switches
Every busway run has to start and end somewhere, and the boxes that make that transition are worth quoting separately. Cable tap boxes take a run down to conduit and cable, fusible switch units drop protected power to a piece of equipment, and transition boxes mate one manufacturer's busway to another or to a switchboard flange.
These pieces are chronically hard to source in the aftermarket, which works in your favor. A plant with an existing run that needs one more tap point cannot order a new one for a discontinued busway line, so the used market is the only market. We buy them individually and by the truckload, in whatever condition they came off the wall.
The markings written on the covers by whoever installed it are often the fastest way to identify a unit. On the loads we handle we regularly see amp rating, phase, wire count and voltage written straight onto the enclosure in marker, and that is genuinely enough for us to price from without opening anything.
