What we look for in plug-in busway
Plug-in busway is the run with openings down its length that plugs clip into, and it is the type most worth removing intact. Because the openings are what make the run useful, a length of plug-in busway has a second life in a way that a plain feeder length sometimes does not.
We buy it in copper and aluminum from 225 amp through 4000 amp, in standard ten foot sections and in whatever odd lengths a building happened to need. The openings should be undamaged and the joint hardware should ideally still be with the sections, because a joint stack is not something a buyer can easily replace.
When our crew takes plug-in busway down, the plugs come off first and get boxed by frame, then the sections come off the hangers with the joints kept together. That sequence is why we get better recovery out of a run than a demolition contractor working with a saw and a deadline.
